The Stories Unheard

Stories Unheard

An expository documentary production investigating critical social issues often ignored or silenced in underdeveloped communities to promote awareness and advocate for positive change.

Our Approach

We use the power of documentary filmmaking to tackle sensitive social issues often ignored or silenced. We have created compelling documentaries that explore themes of:

  • Vulnerability: Street children, widows, orphaned children
  • Health: Malaria medication misuse, caring for children with Down syndrome
  • Economic Realities: Street food vendors, informal work
  • Social Justice: Cannabis legalisation, women's rights, domestic violence
  • Hidden Realities: Sports betting addiction, child adoption system

By bringing these stories to light, we aim to raise public awareness, challenge stigma, and advocate for positive change.

Impact

Our documentary series, Stories Unheard, has sparked tangible change and recognition for featured individuals and communities. Here are some of the real-world impacts:

  • Orphanage Grant: Leratong Joy for One Orphanage, featured in the series, received a R10,000 donation, was spotlighted on radio, and earned an award for outstanding community service
  • Advocating for Widows' Rights: The Widows’ Plights episode became a catalyst for dialogue, used as a conversation starter on South Africa’s popular radio show On the Move.
  • Women’s Empowerment: Female tricycle operators featured in the series gained increased visibility and customers, opening doors to mentorship opportunities and wider community recognition.
  • Uplifting Informal Workers: A sugarcane vendor showcased in the series experienced a surge in customer demand and newfound pride in his work, significantly uplifting his family’s morale.
  • Entrepreneurial Recognition: The story of a street food vendor caught the attention of GTB Food and Drink, leading to a collaboration opportunity. The vendor was also featured by CNN Africa Digital as a model of inspiring entrepreneurship.
